The Lay Of The Hen

I belong to a most exclusive set,
My health is watched with care.
My owner’s a lucky man, you bet,
I’ve made him a millionaire.
My life is insured for a fabulous sum,
There’s an armed guard ’round my pen,
My worth, who can mention?
‘Tis beyond comprehension –
I’m a regular laying hen.

Laying Hens in Nestbox

Oh, my only rival in history,
Was the goose of the golden egg;
War has brought rightful fame to me,
It’s for food, not gold, men beg.
Though some stocks decline,
It’s not so with mine,
I’m most prized possessions of men,
For I’m a treasure,
Of worth beyond measure –
I’m a regular laying hen.
Cut-Cut.
